Year 7&8 Pre-Season Programmes

​​​​​​​Our Year 7&8 Pre-Season development programme is suitable for new and returning players in the 2025 season.

This programme will focus on developing core netball skills including ball skills, footwork, movement, and game play. Spaces are limited for this programme.

Each week the programme will include opportunities for game play to support participants in the lead up to the school competition beginning in May.

Year 9 to 13 Pre-Season Programmes

Netball Hutt Valley will be offering a pre-season development programme for players who have an aspiration to play netball in the Hutt Valley at any level in 2025. 

The programme will be delivered over six sessions, each with a specific focus to help players prepare for the upcoming season. 

The programme will focus on re-engaging and developing ball skills, movement skills, footwork and netball specific court conditioning. 

The programme is available to participants from year 9 to 13.  (male & female).

These sessions will have a netball specific focus, allowing players to work on their individual fitness through engaging in other other sporting codes and general activity. Under 16 & 18 Representative Pre-trial Sessions

Netball Hutt Valley will be running positional workshops and a chance for players to have a go at the fitness testing that will be used for the 2025 representative season.

The below workshops are available to those who are trialling for the under 16 or 18 Netball Hutt Valley teams in 2025. 

Positional Workshops

Shooters

  • Circle entry
  • Rotation of the circle
  • Presentation to the ball

Midcourt

  • Feeding the circle
  • Getting free to receive uncontested
  • Spacial awareness (balancing the court & re-offering)

Defence 

  • Contesting for ball (aerial & ground) 
  • Body positioning and dictating the attackers space
  • Working with your partner to gain possesion of the ball

Pre-trial Warrant of Fitness 

Come along and give it a go with some of the pre-trial testing that will be used for the under 16 & 18 age groups in 2025. If you are wishing to trial for the gold teams it is highly recommended that you attend these workshops to give yourself an opportunity to practise what will be tested and what areas you are required to upskill in.

Warrant of Fitness standards desired for the under 16 & 18 Gold teams

Knee to wall

Ankle joint health & range of movement - to support safe & effective landing and movement on court. 

To ensure rehabilitation of previous injuries. 

A minimum of 10cm range of movement.

Calf raises

Muscle strength required for running and repeated efforts on the netball court - support knee & ankle joints. 

Looking to get 30 per leg (staying to the metronome beat, 1 second up, 1 second down)

Core strength

Side Bridge

Looking for stable body position (no sagging through core/back, hips aligned). 

Players will be given a cone to place at the end of their feet to ensure they are keeping a consistent height during the leg raise. 

Aim to complete 30 reps per side (staying on the metronome beat 1 second up, 1 second down)

Hamstring strength15 per side (30 seconds staying on the metronome beat)
Triple hop/lateral hop

Less than 10% difference between both legs (injury prevention)

Triple hop: 4.7m minimum distance with ability to hold the landing on the third jump. 

Lateral hop: 30 seconds each leg, 40 cm distance to cover. 42 minimum each leg.

Wall ball

Consistency across the three tests - maintain or increase under fatigue.

Looking for a minimum of 55 - 60 consistent passes over a two metre distance.

GS/GK 15.1+

GA/GD 15.5+

WA/C/WD 16.1+
