Primary & Intermediate Netball Season Information

Year 1 to 8 Netball Competitions

All team registrations are now completed through Sporty. School coordinators: please use your school login to register all teams this season.If you do not have your login information please contact the team at Sporty support@sportsground.co.nz.

Please ensure all participants complete their own regsitration form . Schools can send out a magic link to all returning players to update their details for the season (if participants had completed their own forms in the previous season).

FutureFERNS Year 1 to 4

The year 1 to 4 programme is delivered on Saturday's in term 1 & 4 (teams register seperately for each term). 

  • Team registrations close Friday 14th February 2025
  • Star Helper workshop Tuesday 18th February 2025

Grades available:

  • Year 1 & 2 Learning to play 
  • Year 1 & 2 Developing 
  • Year 1 & 2 Understanding 
  • Year 3 & 4 Learning to play 
  • Year 3 & 4 Developing 
  • Year 3 & 4 Understanding
  • Learning to play: very first engagement with netball/ball skills
  • Developing: have had some experience/ ability. Can catch, pass and move
  • Good understanding: confident in abilities and able to catch, pass and move with little instruction

Formats

  • Year 1 & 2: 4v4, played across a third. Warm up, skill then game. Usually competed within 40 minutes. 
  • Year 3 & 4: 5V5 format (2xA, 1xC, 2xD), played over two thirds. Warm up, skill then game. Usually completed within 50 minutes.

Fees 2025

  • Team fees: $190 per team (regsitered via school). 
  • Individual fee: $45 (if your school does not have a team registered, paid direct to NHV).

All teams must supply their own "Star Helper"/Coach for the duration of the programme. 

FutureFERNS Year 5 & 6 

The Year 5 & 6 programme is delivered in Term 2 & 3 on Monday nights, with rounds starting from 4pm. 

  • Team registrations close Tuesday 16th April 2025
  • Year 5 to 8 coach workshop Thursday 1st May 2025

Grades available:

  • Year 5 only 
  • Year 5&6
  • Year 6 only
  • Grades may be combined depending on final entry numbers. 
  • Learning to play: limited ball & movement skills, requires more direction.
  • Developing: have had some experience/ ability. Can catch, pass and move.
  • Good understanding: confident in abilities and able to catch, pass and move with little instruction.

Format

  • Year 5&6 (2xA, 2xC, 2xD) 
  • No limit on boys on court
  • Size 4 ball with modified hoops.
  • Full court. 

Fees 

  • Team fees: $430 per team (regsitered via school).  Please talk to your school about individual player payments in a school team.

Teams must have their own coach and umpire for the duration of the season.

Teams are to supply their own uniform, bibs and ball (size 4). 

Coaches are encouraged to attend the FUNdamental workshops to assist in your development & understanding of netball specific movement skills & technical aspects of the game. 

Umpires workshops are available and delivered by the Hutt Valley Netball Umpires Association. Umpires must be confident in calling obstruction, contact, stepping at minimum for the age grade.

No individual registrations are taken for this grade. If your school is not entering a team please email admin@netballhuttvalley.co.nz and we will do our best to accommodate your participation. 

PRIZEGIVING: all year 5&6 participants will receive their certificates at prizegiving (schools will be notified ahead of time).

FutureFERNS Year 7 & 8 

The Year 7 & 8 programme is delivered in Term 2 & 3 on Saturdays, with rounds starting from 8.30am. 

  • Team registrations close Tuesday 16th April 2025
  • Year 5 to 8 coach workshop Thursday 1st May 2025

Grades available:

  • Grades may be combined depending on final entry numbers. 
  • Grading games will take place over the first three weeks to determine grades for round one. Grades may be altered for round two and will be advised when available.
  • Section 1: Good understanding, confident in abilities (catch, pass and move) with little instruction. 
  • Section 14: limited ball and movement skills, requires more direction. 

Format

  • Year 7&8 (GS, GA, WA, C, WD, GD, GK)
  • Two boys on court per team. 
  • Size 5 ball, regular hoop height.
  • Full court. 

Fees 

  • Team fees: $475 per team (regsitered via school).  Please talk to your school about individual player payments in a school team.

Teams must supply their own scorer who will use My Netball Manager app to score. Scorers from both teams are to stand together for the duration of the match.

Year 7&8 McDonald's Hutt Valley Intermediate Challenge Match: It is aniticpated that the top two school teams in year 7&8 will play the annual challenge match on Senior Finals Day in 2025.
